Hello World

Hello Dear Classmates!
Welcome to the cacophony of NYC.

This is my first post to you and I hope it gives you some insight about who I am and what makes me tick. You may also click through archives below and get to know my thoughts and musings about all things Ed-Tech, Ethnic Food, Parenting a toddler and my travel bucket list.

I come from a small town in India, grew up in a middle class family. Both my parents worked and raised me and my brothers with limited yet sufficient resources. i am grateful for that type of upbringing where you had to wait to get things and earn them through working hard.

It has engrained in me a sense of gratitude for my blessings and that you have to work hard to get what you want in life.Delaying gratification is a beautiful thing, that we as a society need to remind ourselves of.  It is a lesson I want my son to grow up with.

In the past few years that I have had my son, I have also changed in ways I never thought of. Suddenly things like sustainability, organic food, healthy lifestyle and a sense of giving back to the community are topics I gravitate to and read about. This is probably a result of growing up and taking responsibility or just being aware that the world is not ours alone, we have to preserve it for our children and give them opportunities to explore without constraints, think critically yet bravely, fail without judgement and learn from mistakes and successes.  These are extremely challenging things to think about on a daily basis while trying to beat the clock on busy mornings and keeping weekends sane and relaxed. But we try and I think in the process grow ourselves.

It is these thoughts that brought me to this point, I want to make an impact in a way best known to me.

Having lived in a big US city (Chicago) for six years, one might think this is just a step up in terms of chaos,  I still feel unprepared for New York City living

Of the list of things I care most about, Food occupies a whole lot of my brain activity!
In fact, I think the best part about coming to the US is discovering Guacamole, Chicken Pot Pie and the good old BarbecueSeriously, anything tastes good grilled!
One of the things I am most excited about New York City is exploring the many cultural and culinary hotspots from all over the world.

Another thing I get very unmistakably excited about is a live music performance. It gives me a chance to reminisce about my time as one of the lead singers in our college music band. Besides all the attention, praise and sometimes criticism, I think I most enjoyed the process of creating music and seeing how all our little pieces are put together to an amazing cohesive whole. This will be my most cherished experience and one I proudly flaunt.

It is amazing how parenting has changed me. I cannot think of any one experience or event so profoundly impacting my priorities and my personality. I was consumed with learning about children and how they grow and develop. I read A LOT and as any parent who googles will tell you, I freaked myself out A LOT. But gathering information and proactively preparing for changes was my primary coping strategy for being a first time parent in a new country with no local family support, and I must say this approach has been serving me rather well even in professional settings.

Besides bonding over fun and entertainment, I imagine we will spend most of our time busting our brains with assignments, lectures, projects, recruiting and figuring out the exact paths that will eventually lead us to what we came here to do.

I have come to Stern to redefine my Career and start fresh on a journey that is hopefully fulfilling professionally and personally.
